This guide comes from a 2025 Musubi workshop with Trust & Safety senior leadership representing 100+ years of collective experience. Participants were asked to share their biggest challenges, as well as what's working for them, and we sorted their answers into themes.
The answers were remarkably consistent. Leaders are facing chronic under-resourcing, constantly shifting regulatory landscapes, and the challenge of speaking a different language than the rest of the business. But they're also finding ways forward, by building influence through relationships, making strategic tradeoffs, and protecting their teams from burnout.
The Three Types of Problems
We compiled their insights into a practical guide organized around three types of problems:
- Resource allocation issues - using what you have more effectively: building the right team, choosing the right tools, protecting people from burnout.
- Landscape constraints - macro forces you can't control: tight budgets, regulatory complexity, technological disruption. You can't fix these, but you can adapt your strategy around them.
- Influence problems - getting buy-in, resources, or prioritization from others. You need something, but you have to make the case for it or change how people see your work.
